Confirm support before changing settings
Check the router vendor’s documentation for WireGuard support and back up the current configuration. A generic device listing does not prove that your router can run a client or a gateway.
Define the intended traffic
Choose which devices and destinations should use the tunnel. Avoid accidentally disrupting access to the router, local services or the network’s existing DNS setup.
Test and keep a recovery path
Use the device vendor’s supported setup process. Verify the handshake and routes on an actual connected client, then confirm that you can recover management access if the gateway becomes unavailable.
